Smithfield, RI - TODAY, Congressman Gabe Amo (D-RI) stood shoulder-to-shoulder with members of the Rhode Island Jewish Community against antisemitism and hate.
"Antisemitism has no place anywhere, not in Smithfield, not in Rhode Island, not in the world," said Congressman Gabe Amo (D-RI). "We have seen an alarming trend of rising antisemitism, and now more than ever must reaffirm our commitment to ensuring that no Rhode Islander of any age is targeted because of who they are. We can and must do better, so thank you to every person who came out to advocate for the safety of Jewish Rhode Islanders against bigotry and hate. I will continue to carry this commitment to combating antisemitism to Congress and ensure that this moment is not forgotten, but is a catalyst for better days."
Background
Congressman Amo is a member of the bipartisan House Task Force on Combating Antisemitism.
Since his election to Congress from Rhode Island's First Congressional District in 2023, Amo has led bipartisan efforts to ensure full funding for the Nonprofit Security Grant Program, which provides grants to assist targeted nonprofits, including houses of worship, to increase their security.
He also led bipartisan efforts to push back against President Trump's pause on drawdowns for funding under the Nonprofit Security Grant Program earlier this year.
Prior to his election to Congress, Amo served as Deputy Director of the White House Office of Intergovernmental Affairs working with mayors and local elected officials to help implement President Biden's National Strategy to Combat Antisemitism.
