City of Kent May Employee of the Month
Post Date:06/04/2026
Congratulations to our May 2026 Employee of the Month Environmental Engineering Manager Michael Mactutis!
Mike joined the city in 1993 as an Engineering Technician III with the Public Works Department. Since that time, he has held many titles with increasing expertise and scope of responsibility. He was promoted to his current manager position in 2005.
Mike supervises and performs complex and professional engineering duties in the management, implementation, coordination and direction of Public Works Environmental Engineering projects. He trains, supervises, assigns, and reviews the work of assigned personnel while assuring efficient and effective functioning of the Environmental Engineering Section.
Mike was nominated by his co-workers due in part to the leadership he exhibited during the flooding event last December. His performance, attitude, motivation and dedication were exceptional. When the situation needed calm direction and quick, decisive action, Mike stepped in to guide the team and Kent community through a fast-moving, difficult emergency.
Mike is one of the few experts on the Green River with regards to the stormwater, flooding, levees and the management of the Howard Hanson Dam. His understanding of the USACOE process for the management of the Howard Hanson Dam and the resulting river flows that would occur in Kent are unique. On December 9-10 Mike worked 20 straight hours to calculate the potential Green River flows, and impacts to Kent, based on rapidly changing forecasts as the third atmospheric river hit the Pacific Northwest.
Throughout the event, Mike continued to work long hours and provide information that helped prioritize needs and where resources should be spent. Mike's knowledge during the entire event was critical and his co-workers appreciated his solid direction and calm leadership.
Mike continuously embraces our values, and we celebrate him as May's Employee of the Month.
Thank you and Congratulations Mike!
