MONCKS CORNER, S.C. - The Lake Moultrie Regional Water System has passed required water quality tests following repairs to a damaged main water line that serves the City of Goose Creek, Summerville Commissioners of Public Works, and portions of Berkeley County. The regional water system has communicated those results to the municipal water agencies.
On Wednesday, the Lake Moultrie system completed significant repairs to a severely damaged section of the main water line near Moncks Corner. The issue began Monday evening when a contractor, who did not work for Santee Cooper and was operating in a Santee Cooper easement without permission, struck the underground pipe.
Crews from Santee Cooper, Berkeley County, Summerville, Goose Creek and Chandler Construction spent the better part of two nights repairing the 48-inch-wide pipe and returning it to normal operation.
"We understand this situation has created challenges for customers, and we appreciate their patience through the repairs and follow-up testing that confirmed the water is safe to drink," said Mike Finissi, Deputy CEO and Chief Operating Officer. "We identified the issue around 6:30 Monday evening and completed a temporary repair Monday night and the permanent repair Tuesday night. We owe a big thanks to these external teams for helping us restore service so quickly."
