Got Potholes? Submit a Service Request

The Humboldt County Department of Public Works reminds community members to submit a service request if they experience a maintenance issue on a county-maintained road. A request for service on a county road may be submitted to the Public Works Department's Roads Division by calling 707-445-7421 or placing a request for service online.

The Public Works Department acknowledges the poor condition of county roads. This was reflected in recent study on the current state of the county's roads. The study also notes that $500 million is needed over the next 10 years to bring the road system to a state of good repair. Understanding this, Humboldt County Public Works acknowledges residents may experience a maintenance problem with a county-maintained road.

Recently, common requests for service include pothole repair, reports of sunken/uneven road surfaces, road drainage issues, road sign and traffic signal issues and roadway striping concerns. Lower-cost repairs such as these help to slow the rate at which the local road system deteriorates.

Upon receiving a road service request, the Roads Division would verify if the problem reported is located in the county's jurisdiction. If it is found that the problem is on a county-maintained road, the issue will be investigated and a plan to resolve it will be put in place.

  • Tips for reporting a maintenance issue on a Humboldt County maintained road:
  • Identify the location of the problem area by providing Google Map coordinates or a street address.
  • Take pictures of the issue if you are able to.
  • Provide your name and contact information in case more information is needed regarding your request for service.
  • Service requests cannot be accepted on Facebook or any county social media platform.
  • Requests for service regarding Americans with Disability Act (ADA) accessibility issues on a county road may be reported using the ADA Access Service Request for County Maintained Roads form.

The Department of Public Works appreciates your patience while the Roads Division works hard to make improvements.
