Public Works Manager Sarah Ho Builds on Her Bellflower Roots

The City of Bellflower is highlighting Sarah Ho, Public Works Manager, whose career in local government began in Bellflower and ultimately brought her back home to help shape the community where she grew up.

A Bellflower native, Sarah began her municipal career as a part-time recreation leader for the City. After gaining nearly two decades of experience in local government throughout Southern California, she returned to Bellflower two years ago as Public Works Manager, bringing that experience back to the community that first introduced her to public service.

Sarah earned a bachelor's degree in sociology from California State University, Long Beach. During her 20 years in municipal government, she has spent more than 13 years specializing in public works operations.

In her current role, Sarah oversees department operations, the City's Capital Improvement Program and the Public Works budget. The Public Works team maintains the infrastructure residents rely on every day, including streets, sidewalks, trees, traffic signals, parks and City facilities. For Sarah, that work carries additional meaning because each improvement directly contributes to the community she has known throughout her life.

"I love that every project and every day is something different," Sarah said. "One day you're putting in a new playground, the next you're building a new facility and the next you're trying to find a creative solution to fix something that has broken. It's exciting and challenging work that pays off because when each project is finished, I know we're making the community better than it was before."

That connection to Bellflower remains a major part of why she finds the work rewarding.

"I was born and raised here in Bellflower, so being able to return and continue my career for the City that raised me has been an amazing opportunity and experience," Sarah said.

Outside of work, Sarah enjoys attending live concerts and musicals. She and her family also enjoy road trips and have visited 17 national parks so far.

For Sarah, returning to Bellflower has brought her municipal career full circle. The City thanks her for bringing her experience, leadership and commitment back home to serve the community that helped shape her.
