Road impact updates announced for SR 133 construction

COLQUITT COUNTY, Ga. - A portion of Ticknor Road in south Doerun will permanently close and the date has changed for the previously-announced temporary closure of Dona Turner Road as State Route 133 road widening and reconstruction continues in Colquitt County.

Ticknor Road between between West Broad Avenue/SR 133 and West Bay Avenue/SR 270 is scheduled to permanently close March 10. It will be utilized by construction equipment, but will no longer be accessible to the public.

The temporary closure of Dona Turner Road at State Route 133 has been postponed until March 17. It was previously scheduled to begin next week for replacement of the at-grade railroad crossing on the county road west of SR 133, but was postponed by the railroad. Traffic will be able to access Dona Turner Road from Mike Horne Road. However, only local traffic going north/toward the railroad crossing should access Dona Turner Road. Through traffic should not utilize that leg of Dona Turner Road. The detour is expected to be in place for about 30 days.

The Doerun portion of SR 133 is the last of 10 projects to widen and reconstruct the major corridor from Brooks County to north of Holly Drive in Dougherty County. The Doerun section is currently scheduled to be complete in 2028, ending the string of SR 133 construction projects that began in 2014 to increase route capacity and enhance motorist safety.
