Supported with $18.5 million from Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso, the renovation expands the Center to 26 exam rooms and 6 ultrasound rooms
Oct 16, 2026
NYC Health + Hospitals/South Brooklyn Health today announced the opening of its new $22 million Women's Health Center. Supported with $18.5 million from Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso, the renovation expands the Center from 22 to 26 exam rooms and from 4 to 6 ultrasound rooms. In addition, 5 newly created spacious multi-purpose rooms allow patients to complete their exam and in-office procedures within the same location, without having to navigate other floors or buildings. The 17,000 square foot space also features a family comfort space and amenities to support the mother's partners and families during appointments. The Center is adjacent to the Labor & Delivery Department and the inpatient postpartum unit, improving continuity of care during and following a patient's labor and delivery.
South Brooklyn Health also celebrated its newly renovated and recently opened Menopause Practice, designed to address the needs of peri-menopausal, menopausal, surgical menopausal, and menopausal women with more complex medical histories. The newly renovated Menopause Practice represents a significant milestone in South Brooklyn Health's mission to provide specialized, comprehensive, and compassionate care for women navigating the unique health transitions of midlife, bridging the gap in women's health services. Menopause is a pivotal life stage that affects every aspect of a woman's health, yet it has historically been under-addressed in traditional clinical settings. The Menopause Practice is designed to change that narrative by offering a dedicated space where patients can access evidence-based treatments for hormonal changes, bone health, cardiovascular risk, and emotional well-being.
Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso, Councilwoman Mercedes Narcisse, and State Senator Jessica Scarcella-Spanton join South Brooklyn Health leadership to celebrate the new Women's Health Center
"The Women's Health Center and the creation of the Menopause Practice, mark the culmination of a vision to bring "one-stop" healthcare to the women of Brooklyn," said Manjinder Kaur, CEO of NYC Health + Hospitals/South Brooklyn Health. "By expanding women's health, and consolidating menopausal services, South Brooklyn Health ensures that patients no longer have to navigate a fragmented care system."
"Four years ago, I dedicated my entire first-year capital budget to one cause: making Brooklyn the safest place in the city to have a baby. That funding went to our borough's public hospitals, including $18.5 million to South Brooklyn Health, and today it has come to life in a centralized space dedicated entirely to women's healthcare," said Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso. "I'm grateful to Manjinder Kaur and Dr. Tetrokalashvili for their vision and leadership, to NYC Health + Hospitals for making women's health a priority, and to every doctor, nurse, and staff member at South Brooklyn Health who will care for patients here every day. This Center is a milestone for Brooklyn, and models a standard of care that every woman in this borough and this country should have access to."
"All women in South Brooklyn deserve care that is close to home and easy to get," said Council Member Mercedes Narcisse. "This new center will bring those services together in one place, and the Menopause Practice fills a gap that has been there for too long. I want to thank Borough President Reynoso for his investment and the South Brooklyn Health team for their work to make this happen. I'm excited to watch South Brooklyn grow and support it every step of the way."
"I have always had deep respect for women's health providers and placed deep weight on the need to address disparities for women in the healthcare system," said Council Member Kayla Santosuosso. "As a new mom, I feel these things more acutely than ever. I am so proud that our city is investing in world-class, comprehensive care for women right here in southern Brooklyn."
"Every woman deserves access to quality, compassionate health care at every stage of life," said State Senator Jessica Scarcella-Spanton. "South Brooklyn Health's new Women's Health Center and expanded Menopause Practice are important steps toward ensuring women and families across Southern Brooklyn can access the care they need close to home. As a mother and advocate for women's health, I am proud to support efforts that break down barriers to care and ensure every woman feels supported, heard, and cared for throughout her health care journey."
"Congratulations to South Brooklyn Health on the ribbon-cutting ceremony for its newly renovated Women's Health Center," said Assemblyman Alec Brooks-Krazny. "This beautiful milestone reflects a continued commitment to providing women with compassionate, quality care in a welcoming and comfortable environment. Investing in women's health means investing in healthier families and stronger communities. Wishing the team continued success in making a positive difference in the lives of the women they serve."
"This newly designed space is a testament to what we can achieve when clinical excellence meets dedication," said Dr. Maggie Tetrokalashvili, Chair of OB/GYN at NYC Health + Hospitals/South Brooklyn Health. "The Menopause Practice isn't just an office - it's a promise to the women of South Brooklyn that we are invested in their health at every stage of life. "Our goal is to empower women to thrive, especially during their midlife years, not just manage symptoms. These centers and expansion of services is a testament to our unwavering commitment to removing barriers to care and making sure every patient receives comprehensive, personalized treatment. Our team of specialists will work in a collaborative manner to ensure full range of preventive and supportive care."
"The new Women's Health Center and new Menopause Practice will address our community needs with all Ob-Gyn specialties and sub-specialties co-located on one floor in the space that is equipped with state-of-the-art technologies," said Dr. Sushma Nakra, Vice Chair, Director of OBGYN Ambulatory Services and Quality Improvement at South Brooklyn Health.
"We are proud and extremely excited to be marking the start of a new chapter in the life of our Ob Gyn Ultrasound unit, which is focused on improving the lives of our patients during pregnancy and to improve gynecological care for all women who seek our services," said Dr. Daniel Lasser, Director of Maternal-Fetal Medicine and Ob-Gyn Ultrasound at South Brooklyn Health. "The new unit will expand the scope of our services in a beautiful new state of art facility, so that we can serve even more women with quality care and enhanced patient experience. We are extremely grateful and humbled by the amazing opportunity and support that we've been given by Antonio Reynoso and by New York City Health and Hospitals, as well as our administration team here at South Brooklyn Health."
