Car stolen from employee recovered within the hour

At 6:29 p.m. on September 10, Eugene Police responded to the 4700 block of Royal Avenue after a 39-year-old woman reported her Nissan Sentra had been stolen from the parking lot while she was at work inside. Officers gathered information about the vehicle and suspect, then searched the automated license plate reader system.

The vehicle was last seen in the W. 11th area and officers were able to spot it at 4550 W. 11th Avenue around 7:15 p.m. The vehicle was not occupied but the officers waited a very short time and a man, later identified as 29-year-old Jesse Christopher Canavan, entered the vehicle. An officer contacted him and after an investigation, Canavan was arrested, then transported to Lane County Jail and lodged on charges including Unlawful Use Vehicle, Unlawful Entry Motor Vehicle, and warrants.

The vehicle was recovered.
