WASHINGTON D.C. - Today, House Armed Service Committee member Congressman Chris Deluzio (PA-17) introduced the Defense Industrial Base Advance Manufacturing Enhancement Act. His new bill would create a working group within the Department of Defense (DoD) to identify and implement advanced manufacturing solutions that would increase the production of critical parts. Boosting the production of mission-critical parts and products will help fix ongoing supply chain issues within the Defense Industrial Base. Specifically, these advanced manufacturing solutions refer to processes like additive manufacturing, software-controlled subtractive manufacturing, and other innovative manufacturing techniques.
This bill pushes the DoD to proactively identify and use these manufacturing methods to solve critical military readiness issues. Currently, a barrier to implementing advanced technology is the oftentimes slow qualification process that parts go through for approval. This is the kind of issue that a new working group could take on.
"Making sure our military is ready and prepared for anything is a basic job of the federal government," said Congressman Deluzio. "Implementing new and innovative processes like advanced manufacturing will help achieve that readiness. Let's pass my bill the Defense Industrial Base Advance Manufacturing Enhancement Act to help kickstart more of this manufacturing to keep America's Defense Industrial Base humming and making the critical products our troops need."
In previous National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) committee processes, Congressman Deluzio fought for increased funding and reporting on additive manufacturing.
