Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center pediatric care ranked No. 3 in national cohort

WILMINGTON, N.C. - Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center has been recognized as a top performer by the Vizient, Inc. 2026 Bernard A. Birnbaum, MD, Quality Leadership Award. New Hanover Regional Medical Center was ranked No. 3 out of 89 participating pediatric hospitals.

Vizient helps hospitals and health systems evaluate performance against their peers and identify practices associated with high-quality, safe patient care.

"This marks the second consecutive year our physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses and care teams have been nationally recognized for expert pediatric care," said Dr. Michael Jaskolka, clinical physician executive for children's services for the Novant Health Coastal Region. "Thanks to Novant Health's investment, we continue to prioritize offering specialty care for children close to home, both in the hospital and clinic settings."

The Novant Health Betty H. Cameron Women's & Children's Hospital offers medically advanced, personalized care for women and children. From the level 3 neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) to the pediatric inpatient and intensive care units, patients receive coordinated care in a family-centered environment that offers private rooms, large family spaces, child life programs and other services to support healing and recovery. Surgical care options include general pediatric and thoracic surgery, maxillofacial surgery, cleft and craniofacial surgery and pediatric urology.

The award is based on a review of data from the Vizient Clinical Data Base, the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's National Healthcare Safety Network. The 2026 awards reflect performance data from July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2026.
