Fredericksburg, Texas - The City of Fredericksburg will commemorate Independence Day with a pair of community events on Friday, July 4.
The annual Fourth of July Parade will begin at 10 a.m. along Main Street and is expected to feature more than 100 entries. The parade will start at Adams Street, proceed east on Main Street, make a U-turn at Washington Street, and continue west to Bowie Street.
Parade participation is free, but all entries must be decorated in a patriotic theme. Applications must be submitted by 5 p.m. on July 2. Interested participants may apply online at FBGTX.org or at the Visitor Information Center, located at 302 E. Austin St.
For those unable to attend in person, the parade will be streamed live beginning at 10:15 a.m. on FBG.live. A full recording will be available for on-demand viewing following the event.
For the parade and throughout the holiday weekend, the City in partnership with Carousel on Main, will provide additional public restrooms. Located at 110 S. Llano St., the temporary restrooms will add to the five permanent public restroom spots in town, including Pioneer Museum (325 W. Main St.), Visitor Information Center (302 E. Austin St.) and Marktplatz (three different locations).
Meanwhile, the City's annual fireworks show at Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park, 432 Lady Bird Drive, will begin at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Friday, July 4 as well.
Numerous sites are available to view the fireworks, in addition to Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park. Citizens and visitors can view the fireworks from the Gillespie County Fairgrounds, Oakcrest Park, and the Gillespie County Airport & Hangar Hotel. The Hangar Hotel will have live music and beverages for sale at both the Tiki Bar and the Officers Club. Attendees are asked to bring a lawn chair for seating.
After the fireworks, the Fredericksburg Police Department will assist vehicles exiting Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park, the airport and fairgrounds parking areas.
Two of the City's aquatic facilities will be open on July 4, including Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park Pool (1-6:30 p.m.) and the Splash Pad from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Coach Tony Knopp Town Pool may remain closed due to limited staffing availability.
