Ireland will provide additional support to people living in some of the most at-risk countries in the world from climate change after Minister of State for International Development, Neale Richmond, announced an extra €3 million in climate funding.
The funding will be provided to Concern Worldwide, Christian Aid Ireland and GOAL to help them scale up programmes that support people in a number of countries including South Sudan, Myanmar, Niger and Somalia . The three NGOs will receive €1 million each to support these programmes.
Announcing the funding, Minister Richmond said:
Irish Aid supports NGO partners to address some of the world's most pressing challenges, not least of which is climate change. Programmes managed by Concern Worldwide, Christian Aid Ireland and GOAL are providing a lifeline to people who are on the frontline of the climate crisis.
Today's announcement is in line with Ireland's commitment to provide at least €225 million in international climate finance on an annual basis. It is a reflection of our continuing determination to support those most affected by climate change, despite having contributed least to it.
This funding will help vulnerable communities to adapt to the devastating effects of climate change, while also supporting mitigation efforts that reduce future emissions and promote sustainable development.
