Stevenson Student Develops Smartphone App to Transform Campus Recreation

Arman Khan, a senior majoring in Computer Information Systems, unveiled his smartphone app RunRec at the 2024 Brown School of Business and Leadership Student EXPO. Arman designed the app to help students more easily get involved with on-campus recreational activities to have fun, be active, and connect with one another and their community.

"RunRec is an innovative application I developed to help university students effortlessly discover and organize recreational games on campus," Arman said. "The app serves as a virtual rec center. It is designed to integrate seamlessly with existing facility schedules, enabling students to join and participate in recreational activities while allowing the university to optimize facility usage."

His app has already received positive attention. In October, Arman was awarded a $300 microgrant after pitching RunRec at the Maryland Student Startup Networking Dinner hosted by the Pava Marie LaPere Center for Entrepreneurship at Johns Hopkins University. On November 30, Arman was nominated by Stevenson University to apply for a $50,000 Maryland Student Startup Grant.

"I look forward to expanding RunRec's reach and impact and I hope to create more opportunities for students to connect and thrive through recreation," Arman said.
