NEWS RELEASE: Floridians Receiving Largest Refunds in the Nation After Senator Moody Spends First Year in Office Fighting for Tax Breaks for Working Families

WASHINGTON, D.C.-It's Tax Day, and Senator Ashley Moody is highlighting wins secured for Florida's families through the Working Families Tax Cuts package. According to a recent report, Florida has claimed the top spot for the largest average federal tax refunds in the U.S.-Florida filers are bringing home an average refund of $4,433.

"While Tax Day isn't usually a day for celebration, Americans can rejoice knowing they will likely receive a larger tax return or owe less than in years past. I am proud to have supported the Working Families Tax Cuts package - the largest tax cut in history for working Americans. On average, Floridians will receive the largest average federal tax refunds in the country, keeping hard earned dollars in the pockets of workers, families, and businesses," said Senator Ashley Moody.

BACKGROUND:

• The IRS is touting a 24% increase in tax refunds compared to the previous administration.
• Senator Moody supported the Working Families Tax Cuts package, the largest tax cut for the working and middle class in history.
• The Working Families Tax Cuts package features several wins for small business owners and employees:
  • No tax on tips for millions of tipped workers;
  • No tax on overtime for millions of America's hourly workers; and
  • Increases the 1099-MISC threshold, reducing the paperwork burden for small businesses and workers.
• By supporting the Working Families Tax Cuts package, Senator Moody voted to extend the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. By voting to pass this legislation, Senator Moody PREVENTED the following for Floridians specifically:
  • $3,650.00 tax hike on the average Florida family;
  • 399,000 Florida jobs lost;
  • 2,441,080 Florida households' child tax credit cut in half;
  • 1,908,210 Florida small business owners would see a massive tax hike; and
  • 10,001,420 Florida families' standard deduction cut in half.
