Bowie State University celebrates Carla Hopkins, director of Alumni Engagement & Stewardship, who has been honored with the 2025 USM Board of Regents Staff Awardin the category of Extraordinary Public Service.
Hopkins has served in her role at Bowie State for six years. But her commitment to education - including her service on educational boards - has been continuous for 25 years.
Her work exemplifies how professional initiatives and community engagement can complement one another. On campus, she is known for fostering mentorship, collaboration and a culture of shared purpose. Off campus, she actively leads and participates on regional boards including the Baltimore City College Alumni Board and as chair of the Baltimore Leadership School for Young Women's Board of Directors.
One of her signature contributions has been spearheading a collaborative effort with Bowie State's admissions team to engage students from those partner institutions. As a result, more than 25 students have applied, attended or graduated from Bowie State, a testament to the lasting and tangible impact of her service.
Bowie State proudly celebrates Hopkins not only for this well-deserved award but also for the sustained passion, energy and bridge-building she brings to the university and beyond.
