UPDATE: Temporary Ottawa Street closure in Joliet

2/26/2026 UPDATE: To minimize the impact to the public, the postponed work has been rescheduled to take place over two consecutive nights, weather permitting, from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday, March 2 and Tuesday, March 3. The work is expected to be completed by 6 a.m. Wednesday, March 4.

CHICAGO - The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that repairs to a fiber optics line will require a full closure for two days on Ottawa Street (Illinois 53) between Chicago and Jackson streets in Joliet. The closure will go into effect, weather permitting, 7 a.m. Monday, Feb. 16, until no later than 5 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17.

A detour will direct the public to use Chicago and Jackson streets.

The closure is necessary to make repairs to a line that connects and makes communication possible between the lift bridges in the downtown area.

The public can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips. Alternate routes are encouraged. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
