Today, several of the nation's leading environmental organizations, including the Sierra Club, represented by Sierra Club and Earthjustice, moved to interveneto defend the Advanced Clean Cars II (ACC II) waiver.
"California and other clean car states cannot achieve federal clean air standards and protect communities without reducing harmful transportation pollution," Sierra Club Senior Attorney Andrea Issod."We stand with these states to defend their well-established authority to set standards for clean cars."
"The fossil fuel industry and its allies are attacking California's longstanding ability to clean up tailpipe pollution with life-saving new car standards," said Paul Cort, Director of the Right To Zero campaign at Earthjustice."EPA's waiver allows California and the states that adopt California's standards to clean the air we breathe and improve health outcomes for millions of Americans. We must stop the oil industry's attempts to hinder that progress."
Background on the waiver:
The ACC II standards will rapidly reduce pollution from cars, SUVs, and pickup trucks made in model years 2026 through 2035. The standards increase the number of zero-emission vehicles automakers need to offer consumers. The Biden administration's EPA recently granted California a waiver, and twelve states plus DChave adopted the program.
