The Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) advises the East West rail corridor remains closed following the weekend's heavy rain and flooding.
Following track inspections two washaways have been identified between McLeay and Bookaloo in South Australia.
The line between Port Augusta to Whyalla has reopened and the line between Port Augusta to Broken Hill has reopened.
ARTC is actively managing the situation, our teams are on the ground, assessing impacts and preparing recovery works.
We are fully mobilised and ready to rebuild with crews, specialised equipment and materials deployed and pre-positioned along the corridor.
A return to service timeframe has not yet been confirmed, based on current conditions, restoration is expected to take longer than seven days.
Another further significant weather system is forecast to move across similar areas later this week, which may exacerbate existing damage and recovery efforts.
ARTC is maintaining communication with customers and is working alongside emergency services and state transport agencies as the situation develops.
