HAWAII NATIONAL PARK, Hawaiʻi - Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park announces flight operations for May 2026:
May 11 and 15 between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. to conduct fence work on Mauna Loa between the 6,300- and 9,000-ft. elevation.
May 19 between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. for mapping and control of invasive fountain grass from the park's west boundary to Keauhou and from sea level to 4,000-ft. elevation.
May 20 between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. for mapping and control of invasive trees in the Kamoʻoaliʻi and Pepeiao area between 700- and 2100-ft. elevation.
USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory may conduct additional flight operations over Kīlauea and Mauna Loa to assess volcanic activity and maintain instrumentation.
The park regrets any noise impact to residents and park visitors. Dates and times are subject to change based on aircraft availability and weather.
Management of Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park requires the use of aircraft to monitor and research volcanic activity, conduct search-and-rescue missions and law enforcement operations, support management of natural and cultural resources, and to maintain backcountry facilities.
