On Thursday, October 16th, Minister of National Defence, Liviu-Ionuț Moșteanu, had a meeting with his Belgian federal counterpart, Theo Francken, as part of the NATO Defence Ministers Meeting, which took place in Brussels.
The meeting was an opportunity to enhance the bilateral military dialogue, due to the substantial cooperation between the two countries, proven also by the presence of the Belgian military contingent within the NATO Battle Group Romania in Cincu. The talks emphasized the commitment of the Kingdom of Belgium to the defence of NATO's Eastern Flank and the excellent Romanian-Belgian cooperation in this respect.
The two officials also discussed bilateral cooperation as well as within the EU and NATO, including security in the Black Sea region. The officials also highlighted the prospects of cooperation in developing military production capacities and capitalizing on European investment funds in the defence industry.
The two ministers agreed to continue the dialogue and cooperation on these topics, at a sustainable pace.
During his official visit to Belgium, Minister of National Defence visited the manufacturing facilities of FN Herstal, a leader in defence technologies. On this occasion, concrete opportunities for industrial collaboration were explored for the technology development and transfer, for the benefit of both national defence industries.
