Columbus, OHIO- Mayor Andrew J. Ginther is proud to announce the appointment of Alysha Martin as the next director of the Department of Human Resources. Martin will lead the department comprised of approximately 50 employees who serve the City of Columbus' nearly 10,000 full- and part-time employees.
"Alysha brings more than 15 years of diverse experience across human resources disciplines, including deep knowledge of employee relations, training and development, and workforce planning," said Mayor Ginther. "Her goals dovetail seamlessly with the city's priorities of creating a culture of inclusion, transparency and collaboration, where every employee and neighbor feels valued and heard."
Martin said enhancing the employee experience is paramount on her to-do list, as a city employee's experience impacts retention, performance and ultimately, the service and programming provided to Columbus residents.
"We want to continue building a workplace culture where employees feel valued, supported, and connected to purpose," Martin said. "Some of the early areas of focus will include strengthening the employee experience, investing in employee wellbeing, and ensuring our team members have the tools and support they need to successfully serve our community."
Martin first joined the City of Columbus in 2018 as a labor relations specialist. She later served as human resources officer for Auditor Megan Kilgore before returning to the Department of Human Resources in 2024 as deputy director.
Martin is a licensed attorney and an active contributor to the HR community, serving as a board member of the Ohio Public Employer Labor Relations Association. In addition, she has served as an adjunct professor in the Human Resources Management program at Columbus State Community College.
