PACIFIC REGIONAL TRIPARTITE EMPLOYMENT...

The 2025 Fiji Government-led Pacific Regional Tripartite Employment Conference was a success, as it delivered high-level outcomes for the benefit of the Pacific Island countries.

The endorsed outcomes were for the establishment of the regional labour ministers meeting, the establishment of the Senior Government Officials Working Group, and the Talanoa Forum.

The Minister for Employment, Hon. Agni Deo Singh, while delivering the closing remarks, expressed gratitude to all tripartite delegates, participants, speakers, moderators, and panel members for sharing their perspectives, insights, and their active involvement.

The meeting aimed to strengthen partnerships within the Pacific region, particularly in the realm of labour.

He also highlighted agreements with other countries to cooperate and support each other in these areas.

The role of Pacific labor ministers is critical in safeguarding the welfare of workers and collaborating with both workers' and employers' organisations to improve working conditions and standards.

Minister Singh urged the Pacific labour ministers to take concrete action upon returning to their respective countries, including ratifying and domesticating key core conventions, improving the status of work, and increasing productivity.

"Fiji is prepared to host the first meeting of senior officials and labor ministers in 2026, and delegates are expected to report on their progress on labour and employment matters," added Minister Singh.

The Employment Minister, with a call to action, urged participants to translate the discussions and agreements made during the meeting into tangible improvements in the lives of workers across the Pacific.

He further emphasised the importance of ongoing collaboration, transparency, and a commitment to achieving shared goals.

The meeting was seen as a catalyst for positive change, with a focus on fostering dialogue, collaboration, and resilience in shaping the future of work across the Pacific.
