Enrollment at Cameron University continues upward trend this fall

Cameron University's enrollment is up and trending in a positive direction for the Fall 2026 semester, President Shane Hunt noted on Monday. It was census day, the day that colleges and universities finalize their numbers after enrollment closes.

Cameron posted significant increases in several areas of student enrollment this fall - specifically among first-time freshman, concurrent high school students, transfer students, and first-time, full-time degree-seeking students.

The number of first-time, full-time degree seekers is up more than 10 percent from Fall 2026. The total of first-time freshmen is up nearly 7.6 percent, with this year's freshman class topping out at 511 students. The number of transfer students at Cameron exceeded the 7-percent mark this fall, and concurrent enrollment among high school students is up nearly 3.6 percent.

"I am so proud for our CU team for their great work to make these gains possible, and so excited to welcome students to our great campus," Hunt said. "The very significant increase in freshman and transfer students shows positive momentum for our campus community and highlights the outstanding quality of a Cameron degree."

Overall, fall enrollment at Cameron is up nearly 1 percent from a year ago, continuing a positive growth trend in recent years. This fall's enrollment stands at 3,671 students. Likewise, the number of credit hours enrolled in by CU students is up almost 1 percent, at 37,566 hours.

Hunt credited much of this fall's growth to new and improved recruiting practices instituted at Cameron over the past year.

Not only are more students attending CU this fall, a significantly higher number are living on the Lawton campus, both in the Cameron Village apartments, and in the more traditional Shepler Towers dorms. The Village is at 96 percent capacity, while Shepler exceeds 80 percent.

The result is that Cameron University has 22 percent more students living on campus than it did a year ago, Hunt said, noting that the number of residential students is at its highest point in many years.
