With the return of snow and freezing temperatures, The University of Toledo wants to reaffirm our commitment to the safety of the campus community with these seasonal reminders:

Be prepared. Wear a warm coat, hat, gloves or a scarf.

Decisions to delay or cancel classes due to severe weather are based on the condition of UToledo campuses and area roads, as well as reports from local transit authorities and weather forecasters.

Be mindful. To avoid slips and falls, stick to cleared or salted and sanded areas in snowy or icy conditions, and also take small steps to increase balance and use handrails where available. Wearing proper shoes to provide better traction and help prevent slips and falls is also important. If you see an uncleared walkway on campus, please report it to the grounds crews right away: 419.530.1000.

Be informed. The website utoledo.edu/weather will provide time-stamped updates to keep the UToledo and local communities informed when severe weather events impact University operations.

UToledo is a community and a home for many students, so essential campus services continue should the University delay or cancel classes. The University of Toledo Medical Center does not close during severe weather.

In the rare event of a major snow or ice storm that necessitates UToledo canceling classes, the University will announce this information through the utoledo.edu/weather website as well as through several additional communication vehicles:

• UT Alert text message and email for members of the campus community;

• Web: utoledo.eduand myut.utoledo.edu;

• Social media: UT on Facebookand Twitter; and

• Local media.

Decisions to delay or cancel classes due to severe weather are based on the condition of UToledo campuses and area roads, as well as reports from local transit authorities and weather forecasters. The University's policy is to remain open whenever possible in order to minimize interruption of teaching and research.
