Rep. Mullin’s Statement on Why He voted NO on Republicans’ Spending Plan

"I returned to D.C. this week and voted NO on Republicans' disastrous, partisan spending bill that plunges our country deeper into a health care crisis.

Republicans have already slashed billions of dollars from Medicaid. Now, they're entirely refusing to extend the crucial Affordable Care Act tax credits that make health care more affordable for millions. Americans across the country are already seeing their health care costs skyrocket as a result of Republicans' fiscal irresponsibility, with families seeing their premiums double or even triple. Americans across the country are seeing their health care costs skyrocket as a result of Republicans' fiscal irresponsibility, with families seeing their premiums double or even triple. This cruel spending bill will raise costs even further, putting our most vulnerable communities at risk.

No one wins in a government shutdown, and while I am relieved to see an end to the chaos and uncertainty, I am disappointed that we don't have any meaningful progress on addressing Republicans' health care crisis.

Republicans control the House, Senate and presidency - the American people know that they own this shutdown. It is shameful that the Trump Administration tried to prevent families from receiving their SNAP food assistance, especially at a time when people are already struggling with high utility bills, rent and child care costs.

House Democrats are united in our fight to make health care and everyday necessities more affordable for everyday Americans. That's why I voted NO on the spending proposal brought to the House floor tonight."
