Board to discuss Local Government Infrastructure Surtax
Orange County, FL - The Orange County Board of County Commissioners (BCC) will hold a special meeting on Monday, March 2, 2026, to hear a presentation from the Trust for Public Land (TPL) on feasibility research and public opinion surveys related to a potential Local Government Infrastructure Surtax.
Following the January 13, 2026, BCC discussion, Mayor Jerry L. Demings requested TPL conduct research to gauge community priorities and public sentiment on potential uses of surtax funding.
If pursued, the Local Government Infrastructure Surtax could support investments in:
· Land acquisition for environmentally sensitive lands
· Parks, trails, and outdoor recreation
· Stormwater / water quality improvements
· Land acquisition for affordable housing
· Facilities
· Transportation infrastructure
TPL will present its findings and recommendations. County staff will also outline potential project categories and summarize County and Municipal needs for BCC consideration.
The Commissioner's feedback will guide next steps, including whether to place the surtax on the November 2026 General Election ballot.
