The World Health Organization (WHO) Country Office in Cabo Verde has released the Results of Technical Cooperation Report 2024-2025, documenting the key health advances achieved during the biennium.
Among the historic milestones of the period are the certification of Cabo Verde as a malaria-free country in 2024 and the elimination of measles and rubella in 2025 - achievements that reflect decades of national leadership, sustained public investment, and the dedication of health professionals across all islands. The report also records significant progress in universal health coverage, emergency preparedness and response - including the dengue epidemic and the flooding caused by Storm Erin -, health promotion, and institutional strengthening, with a budget execution rate of 96%. Its publication represents an exercise in accountability and transparency regarding the results achieved by the country with the support of WHO's technical cooperation, reaffirming the commitment to clearly communicate the impact of joint work.
Structured around four strategic pillars, the report highlights WHO's role as a trusted technical partner of the Government of Cabo Verde, the United Nations, and the international community in health area. The results achieved - from the adoption of the HEARTS strategy for cardiovascular diseases and the ICOPE programme for healthy ageing, to the launch of the National Suicide Prevention Strategy and the National Digital Health Strategy 2024-2034 - demonstrate that technical cooperation, when aligned with clear national priorities, produces real and lasting impact on the lives of populations. The partnership between WHO and Cabo Verde remains active and forward-looking, with a renewed commitment to supporting the country in the continuous advancement of its health indicators and in achieving results that concretely and equitably improve the lives of all Cape Verdeans.
