BOSTON - A judge in the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts has granted a preliminary injunctionfor yet another one of Donald Trump's freezes on offshore wind. Judge Brian Murphy ruled Wednesday that Vineyard Wind, a 13 megawatt wind project off the coast of Massachusetts, may resume construction.

In December 2025, Donald Trump's Department of Interior issued stop work orders for five nearly completed offshore wind farms. Since then, federal judges have allowed for work to resume on Revolution Wind, Empire Wind, Dominion Wind, and Vineyard Wind. Sunrise Wind's hearing is scheduled for February 2, 2026.

Vineyard Wind, the nation's first commercial-scale offshore wind farm, is already providing power for local homes and businesses. Once construction is completed, the 62 wind turbines will generate enough clean energy to power 400,000 homes.

"Again, federal judges have sided with the American people and dealt a blow to Trump's campaign to cancel nearly complete offshore wind projects," said Sierra Club Senior Advisor on Offshore Wind Nancy Pyne."The workers on these projects must be allowed to finish the job. Doing so would allow for families across the coast to receive clean energy that doesn't poison the air or jack up their already sky-high energy bills."

"Vineyard Wind's legal victory adds to a growing list of wins for offshore wind across the East Coast," said Vick Mohanka, Sierra Club Massachusetts Chapter Director. "Offshore wind is affordable, reliable, safe power. We should be working to connect it to our grid as soon as possible. Its responsible development helps keep the lights on and delivers the Commonwealth lower energy bills, good jobs, and cleaner air."
