Chairman of the Management Board of NC "QazaqGaz" JSC, Alibek Zhamauov, spoke at the session "The Future of Gas: A Key to the Energy Transition" held as part of the XVI Eurasian KAZENERGY Forum.

Chairman of the Management Board of NC "QazaqGaz" JSC, Alibek Zhamauov, spoke at the session "The Future of Gas: A Key to the Energy Transition" held as part of the XVI Eurasian KAZENERGY Forum. In his address, he presented the country's gas production growth forecast and highlighted key legislative initiatives.

According to projections, gas production in Kazakhstan is expected to increase from 59 billion cubic metres in 2024 to 74 billion cubic metres by 2029-2030. This growth will be driven by the commissioning of new fields and increased output from existing assets, underscoring the importance of gas as a source of domestic energy supply.

  • Mr Zhamauov also outlined a number of reforms aimed at enhancing the sustainability and transparency of the gas sector, including:
    the adoption of new consumption standards for household gas users;
    the introduction of automated metering systems with remote data transmission;
    the establishment of long-term gas prices for petrochemical projects;
    the simplification of procedures for transferring gas supply facilities to QazaqGaz's balance;
    and the reduction of barriers for small businesses connecting to gas networks.

In terms of gasification, KZT 65.9 billion has been allocated from the national budget this year for the implementation of 45 projects, 31 of which are due for completion in 2025. Additionally, the Samruk-Kazyna Sovereign Wealth Fund has allocated KZT 46.5 billion for 55 projects. As a result, in 2025 approximately 292,700 people across 29 settlements will gain access to gas, raising the national gasification level to 63.8%.

To ensure uninterrupted supply, several large-scale infrastructure projects are also underway, including the Taldykorgan-Usharal main gas pipeline, which is nearing completion at a total cost of KZT 131.7 billion.

"These measures will enhance the efficiency and reliability of the industry, ensure stable supplies for households and industry, and strengthen Kazakhstan's overall energy security," Mr Zhamauov emphasised.
