City Offers Emergency Alert System

Fredericksburg, Texas - In the aftermath of the Crabapple Fire, the City of Fredericksburg would like to remind all Gillespie County residents and property owners of the CivicPlus Mass Notification System - an emergency alert system designed to keep the public informed and safe.

"Our emergency alert system is a crucial tool for keeping our community safe and informed during emergencies," Emergency Management Coordinator Justin Calhoun said. "During the recent Crabapple Fire, we were able to send out information countywide to prompt evacuations and keep people out of harm's way. We encourage all citizens throughout the county to sign up for this free service."

By signing up, the public can receive emergency alerts and severe weather warnings directly to their preferred devices, ensuring timely and critical information reaches them and their families.

Residents can choose to receive alerts via text message, email, pager, or voice mail (in extreme cases). These alerts are provided free of charge, though standard text messaging rates and other charges may apply.

To subscribe to the emergency alerts via SMS text messages only, text FBGTX to 38276. A mobile app, myAlerts, is also available for added convenience.

The emergency alert system will be used for both emergency and significant non-emergency incidents. Emergency alerts may include evacuation orders, shelter-in-place directives, boil water notices, and other urgent actions. Non-emergency alerts could cover significant transportation disruptions or ongoing police or fire activities. This system is not intended for routine information but for incidents that have substantial impacts on residents.

By signing up, residents can receive automatic alerts for bid postings, calendar events, government job openings, press releases and website updates.
