Promotions and tenure announced for 2026

More than 100 faculty from across the Washington State University system who were recently promoted or received tenure are being celebrated later this month as part of Showcase.

This year's Celebrating Excellence Banquet will take place at 5 p.m. Friday, March 27, on the main floor of Beasley Coliseum on the Pullman campus. The annual event is a celebration of WSU faculty and staff whose commitments to their fields of study as well as the university have led to significant advances and accomplishments.

Anyone interested in attending the Celebrating Excellence Banquet is asked to register by March 17.

As part of the most recent promotion and tenure cycle, the university named three new regents professors:

Tahira M. Probst

Department of Psychology
College of Arts and Sciences

John M. Roll

Department of Community and Behavioral Health
Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine

Mechthild Tegeder

School of Biological Sciences
College of Arts and Sciences

Probst, who directs the Coalition for Healthy and Equitable Workplaces lab, is recognized internationally for her research on job insecurity, workplace safety and worker well-being. Probst's contributions to her field include serving as a member of the Washington State Academy of Sciences and Fellow of the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology.

Roll is widely respected for his contributions to behavioral pharmacology and addiction science, with research that has transformed treatment models for substance use disorders. Since returning to his alma mater in 2002, he has held numerous leadership roles at the university, including serving as the founding director of the Program of Excellence in Addictions Research, the Translational Addiction Research Center, and the Rural Mental Health and Substance Abuse Treatment Program.

Tegeder is a prolific researcher and authority in the field of plant biology with dozens of publications in leading journals. Her research focuses on developing strategies to improve crop productivity in service of meeting the world's food supply and alternative energy source needs.

More than two dozen WSU faculty members across seven colleges received tenure in this most recent cycle. The complete list of promotion and tenure recipients is available on the Showcase website.
