Leader Schumer Statement On “Renegade” 5th Circuit Ruling On DACA

New York, N.Y. - Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) today released the following statement in response to the 5th Circuit's ruling on DACA:

"The 5th Circuit is a renegade court. To say DACA is unconstitutional is not only cruel but way out of the mainstream of legal thinking.

"This latest ruling is completely out of step with American values, voters, and the rule of law. Nearly five years ago the highest court in the land ruled in favor of Dreamers, folks who have been in this country since childhood and are looking for nothing more than to fulfill their own American Dream in the only country they have ever called home.

"President-Elect Donald Trump has said that he wants to do 'something about the Dreamers' and that he will work with Democrats on a plan, something I will take him up on while he is in office.

"Senate Democrats remain committed to working in a bipartisan way on a longterm and meaningful path forward to protect Dreamers."
