TDOT Announces Nighttime Work on I‑40 in Memphis

Memphis, TN - The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) will begin nighttime construction activities on Sunday, May 3, as part of an ongoing improvement project on I-40 between Levee Road and Hollywood Street in Memphis.

May 3 through May 17, each night between 9:00 p.m. - 6:00 a.m., I-40 WB will have an outside lane closure to allow crews to safely perform shoulder strengthening work. Strengthening the shoulders is a necessary step in the project for future traffic shifts.

May 17 through May 31, I-40 lane closures will affect the westbound inside lanes and the eastbound outside lanes as construction progresses. Two lanes will remain open.

Motorists are urged to use caution, obey signage, and watch for workers in the area.

The I-40 improvement project is anticipated to be completed in Summer 2027.

As always, drivers are reminded to use all motorist information tools wisely and Know Before You Go! by checking travel conditions before leaving for your destination. Drivers should never tweet, text, or talk on a cell phone while behind the wheel.
