WASHINGTON, D.C.- Congressman Mario Díaz-Balart (FL-26) issued the following statement following the Trump Administration's decision to withdrawfrom the 2019 Tomato Suspension Agreement:
"For too long, Florida farmers have been hurt by one-sided foreign trade deals like the Tomato Suspension Agreement, which flooded U.S. markets with Mexican tomatoes and put American tomato growers at a significant disadvantage.
"After multiple engagements with the U.S. Department of Commerce, I am delighted with the Administration's announcement of their intent to withdraw from the 2019 Agreement suspending the Antidumping Investigation on Fresh Tomatoes from Mexico. This is a big win for Florida farmers. This is another example of President Trump's America First trade policies in action, and I thank him and his Administration for standing with our farmers and promoting fair trade policies. This was a long-overdue action that will hold Mexican tomato exporters accountable for circumventing enforcement mechanisms."
