2020 Model Year Expanded Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator Underhood Fire Risk Recall

Ford Motor Company is expanding an earlier recall of certain 2021 model year Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator SUVs to include certain 2020 MY vehicles produced between November 17, 2020 and December 1, 2020. An electrical short may develop in the battery junction box's printed circuit board. If this occurs, the electrical current load is sufficient to overheat the printed circuit board and this can lead to the risk of an underhood fire, even when the vehicle is parked and off. Ford is instructing owners to park their vehicles outside and away from structures.

The expanded recall includes approximately 4,632 Expedition and Navigator SUVs in the United States assembled between November 17, 2020 and December 1, 2020. As of Ford's filing with NHTSA, there have been two reported underhood fires with vehicles built between these dates in the expanded population.

Dealers will inspect all recalled vehicles for damage in the battery junction box. If damage is observed, the battery junction box will be replaced. For units equipped with 800-Watt fan, dealers will remove the battery junction box ground wire. For units equipped with 700-Watt fan, dealers will remove the battery junction box ground wire and install an auxiliary box with wire jumper.

Ford is treating this recall with a high sense of urgency and will communicate to customers - via FordPass and Lincoln Way app and mail - as soon as possible.

Ford has not issued instructions to stop driving vehicles under this recall and is not aware of any accidents related to this issue. The company is not aware of any reported injuries in the expanded population.
