TRS Reflects on the Recent Passing of Former Trustee Bob Lyons

We are deeply saddened by the passing of former TRS Trustee Robert "Bob" Lyons earlier this month. A longtime high school social science teacher and department chair, Bob dedicated his career to serving students and supporting education in Illinois. He spent more than three decades shaping young minds and strengthening school communities.

Bob served on the TRS Board of Trustees from 2004 to 2016, advising the System's investment strategy as chair of the Investment Committee. He was passionate about ensuring transparency and accountability on behalf of Illinois educators and traveled often to visit retired members throughout northern Illinois.

"We extend our condolences to Bob's family and friends as they mourn his passing, and the generations of students he impacted in the classroom and as a coach," said Stan Rupnik, TRS executive director. "We honor his legacy, impact and remarkable service to Illinois education."
