MARTINEZ - Assemblymember Anamarie Ávila Farías (D-Martinez) released the following statement on the passing of Dolores Huerta:
"Today, we remember Dolores Huerta, a woman who changed history and inspired generations of women, especially Latinas like me.
"As a Latina legislator, I know how much it means to see a woman who looks like you stand up, speak out, and fight for others at a time when women like us were so often overlooked. Dolores showed us that our voices matter, that our roots are our strength, and that we belong at the table where decisions are made.
"I feel incredibly honored to have had the opportunity to meet her. She was more than a labor leader. She was a light for so many of us, a reminder that we can lead, we can make a difference, and we don't have to wait for someone to give us permission.
"So many of us are standing on the shoulders of women like Dolores. Her courage helped open doors for generations of Latinas, and it is now our responsibility to keep those doors open for the young women coming behind us.
"¡Sí, se puede! was never just a slogan. It was a belief that ordinary people, when they come together, can change the world.
"Gracias, Dolores, for showing us the way. I hope we honor your legacy by continuing the work you dedicated your life to.
"Rest in peace and in power."
