NCCU Student Art and Design Exhibition Showcases Emerging Creative Voices

The North Carolina Central University (NCCU) Art Museum presents New Horizons: The 2026 NCCU Student Art and Design Exhibition, a juried exhibition celebrating the innovation, technical skill and creative vision of students in the department of art and design.

The exhibition runs Sunday, March 22, through Wednesday, April 29, 2026. An opening reception will be held Wednesday, April 1, from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public, and refreshments will be served. New Horizons highlights a range of artistic practices across the department, including fashion, apparel and textile design; pre-architecture; studio Art; art studies; graphic design and innovation; and animation and interactive media. The exhibition reflects the interdisciplinary strength of NCCU's art and design programs and provides students with valuable professional exhibition experience.

All works are selected through a juried process, recognizing excellence in concept, craftsmanship and creative exploration. The exhibition also offers students experience in submission protocols, exhibition preparation and public presentation.

"New Horizons represents the next generation of artists, designers and creative thinkers, said Brenda Faison, Ph.D., director of the NCCU Art Museum and chair of the department of art and design. "This exhibition not only showcases their technical growth and conceptual development but also reflects NCCU's commitment to preparing students for meaningful careers in the creative industries."

The annual student exhibition is a signature campus event, drawing students, faculty, alumni and members of the Durham arts community. It celebrates student achievement and highlights emerging voices shaping contemporary visual culture.

The NCCU Art Museum serves as a teaching resource and cultural hub, presenting exhibitions, programs and collections that advance scholarship, creativity and public engagement in the visual arts. Located at 580 E. Lawson St., across from the Farrison-Newton Communications Building, the museum is accessible to visitors with disabilities.

Hours are Sunday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Admission is free. For information, call 919-530-7048 or email Nya Amason at [email protected]. Call in advance to schedule group visits.
