Archaeology Site Prep: Volunteer Workday, Fairfax SRA (Monroe Lake)

Archaeology Site Prep: Volunteer Workday at 9:30 a.m.

Sign up by September 9 at tinyurl.com/siteprep-sep2025. Volunteers must be at least 14 years old. Anyone under 16 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.

Location: Fairfax State Recreation Area (meet at Hunter Check Station parking lot)

Volunteers are needed to clear brush and small trees from the remnant foundations of a late 1800s home and its associated farm buildings, preparing this historic site for archaeological mapping (which will take place in mid-September). In addition to removing brush, we'll also keep an eye for previously unknown features to add to the mapping project.

Volunteers should dress for the weather and bring work gloves, water bottle, and - if you have them - loppers or other tools suitable for cutting stems up to 1" diameter. 2 hours
