Governor Polis Appoints Jeffrey M. Schwartz to the 8th Judicial District Court and Michael M. Perez to the Weld County Court in the 19th Judicial District

DENVER - Today, Governor Polis appointed Jeffrey M. Schwartz to the 8th Judicial District Court. The vacancy is created by the retirement of the Honorable Juan G. VillaseƱor and is effective immediately. Governor Polis also appointed Michael M. Perez to the Weld County Court in the 19th Judicial District. The vacancy is created by the retirement of the Honorable Renee S. Doak and is effective January 13, 2027.

Jeffrey M. Schwartz

Mr. Schwartz is a District Court Magistrate in the 8th Judicial District, a position he has held since 2023. His docket consists of domestic relations matters. Previously, Mr. Schwartz was Founder and Partner at Schwartz & Waible, LLC (2009-2022) and Deputy Public Defender in the Colorado Springs Office of the Colorado State Public Defender (2003-2008). Mr. Schwartz earned his B.A. from Adams State University in 1999 and his J.D. from the University of Kansas School of Law in 2003.

Michael M. Perez

Mr. Perez is an Associate Attorney at Wagstaff Law Firm, a position he has held since 2025. His practice consists of civil litigation. Previously, Mr. Perez was a Deputy District Attorney in the 17th Judicial District Attorney's Office (2021-2025); Deputy District Attorney in the 19th Judicial District Attorney's Office (2017-2021); and Law Clerk for Judge Michael Spaan and Judge Dani Crosby, Alaska Superior Court (2015-2016). Mr. Perez earned his B.A. from the University of California Los Angeles in 2011 and his J.D. from the University of California Davis School of Law in 2015.
