M. Jean-Noël Barrot, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, had a meeting yesterday with his Canadian counterpart, Ms Anita Anand, on the sidelines of the G7 foreign ministers' meeting.
In the framework of this meeting, which will mark the handover of the G7 presidency from Canada to France in 2026, the ministers discussed the Ukraine and Middle East situations. They also talked about the need to continue discussions with G7 members on issues related to energy and supply-chain security, and the challenges posed by organized crime, particularly linked to drug trafficking.
As allies and like-minded partners within the international fora, particularly NATO, the G7 and the G20, the two ministers reaffirmed their commitment to multilateralism and the need to adopt convergent positions on responding to international crises.
They also highlighted the importance of continuing and strengthening their strategic economic cooperation, especially in the areas of defence, energy and critical supply.
