WASHINGTON-Tomorrow, members of the United States Coast Guard will miss their paychecks due to the ongoing Department of Homeland Security (DHS) funding lapse. In response, U.S. Congressman Aaron Bean (FL-04) joined his colleagues in urging President Trump to ensure Coast Guard personnel are paid.
Upon sending the letter, Congressman Bean said, "Tomorrow, the men and women of the United States Coast Guard will miss a paycheck, yet they continue to patrol our waters, secure our ports, and carry out mission-critical operations that keep America safe. This is unacceptable. Our Coast Guard never stops defending our homeland, and political gridlock should never put them at risk. I am urging President Trump to ensure these heroes receive the pay they have earned."
BACKGROUND
Funding for the Department of Homeland Security - which oversees the Coast Guard, TSA, FEMA, CISA, the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers, and the United States Secret Service - lapsed on February 14 for the second time in less than six months. During a shutdown, essential DHS personnel are required to continue working without pay.
Northeast Florida is home to a strong Coast Guard presence, including personnel stationed in Jacksonville and Mayport. Congressman Bean emphasized that the service members and families in the region should not bear the burden of political gridlock.
In addition to sending the letter, Congressman Bean is a cosponsor of the Pay Our Homeland Defenders Act of 2026, legislation that would ensure DHS law enforcement personnel continue receiving their paychecks on schedule during future government shutdowns.
