Community Invited to Share Priorities for Federal Funding designated for Housing and Livability

The City of Long Beach is seeking community input on the development of the next five-year Consolidated Plan (Plan). The 2027-32 Plan will influence which programs and services are prioritized and funded by U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) grants - specifically, the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), HOME Investment Partnerships Program (HOME) and Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) funds.

The Plan focuses on addressing housing and community development needs, principally for low- and moderate-income individuals, families and neighborhoods in Long Beach.

Community members can provide feedback and get involved by attending an upcoming in-person event or by taking a survey, which will be available in English, Spanish, Khmer and Tagalog until March 16, 2027. Those without internet access can complete the survey on public computers at any open Long Beach Public Library location.

Throughout the fall and early spring, Community Development staff will attend and collect input at a variety of events, such as the Westside Night Market series on the third Friday in October and November.

Additionally, two in-person events will be hosted in early 2027, where community members can learn more about the development of the Plan, participate in an interactive activity to help determine how funds should be invested and provide open-ended feedback.

Community Development staff, in partnership with the Long Beach Community Investment Company, will hold two public hearings in spring 2027. Prior to the hearings, staff will publish a draft of the Plan for a 30-day public review and comment period. During the public comment period, staff will also hold a virtual feedback session where community members can review a draft of the Plan before staff members present it to City Council for approval. If approved by Council, the Plan will take effect Oct. 1, 2027, and will remain in effect until Sept. 30, 2032.
