The Delaware Department of Transportation has announced an emergency closure of Lorewood Road between Ratledge Road and Tami Trail.
On Thursday, May 21, 2026, two large, corrugated metal culvert pipes partially collapsed on Lorewood Road over Joy Run.
DelDOT staff were dispatched immediately to close the roadway and assess the damage.
DelDOT's contractor will be replacing the corrugated metal pipes with reinforced concrete pipes. Work began today with the location of underground utilities, and the road is expected to be reopened on June 8, 2026, weather pending.
