Pay.gov Ensures Fastest Filing and Payments

January 20, 2026│Office of Communications

Did you know that filing electronically through Pay.gov is the quickest and most accurate way to submit your operational reports and excise tax returns? It also provides immediate confirmation of receipt and secure payment processing, giving you confidence that your filing and payment obligations are met on time-no more worrying about postmarks!

Using Pay.gov also ensures compliance with the federal electronic payment mandate. Executive Order 14247 requires the transition to electronic payments for all federal receipts and disbursements, including those to and from TTB. As TTB continues to move away from paper-based transactions, Pay.gov provides an easy and secure way to meet this requirement.

How to Register

If you don't have a Pay.gov account yet, you can self-enroll. We have a short video available that walks you through the process of signing up for an account.

Industry members are required to have a Signing Authority form (TTB F 5100.1) or Power of Attorney form (TTB F 5000.8) on file with us to submit federal excise tax returns and/or reports of operations for their company. Both forms can be found on our TTB forms page. Once registered to use Pay.gov, you may locate other TTB forms available on Pay.gov by entering 'TTB' in the Pay.gov search field or at this Pay.gov list.

Filing Deadlines

Be sure to submit your filings and payments on time. Electronic payments must be made by 8:55 p.m. ET the business day before the due date.

For more information on filing deadlines, please see Tax Returns & Reports Due Dates.
