BRMC, OGH present February Star Award winners

BRADFORD, PA / OLEAN, NY - Bradford Regional Medical Center (BRMC) and Olean General Hospital (OGH), Kaleida Health facilities, are proud to announce the winners of the 2026 February Star Awards. This month's BRMC and OGH recipients were Thomas Messer and Shania Drake, respectively.

Thomas Messer, a distribution tech in the materials management department, joined BRMC in 2022.

"Tom is a wonderful, kind employee who is always so helpful and does anything asked of him. Tom comes into our office every day with a kind word and a smile. He's very dependable picking up and delivering whatever is needed between the office and hospital," said his nomination. "One day he was in our office three times and was pleasant each time! I've encountered Tom in different offices and his attitude and personality are always top notch! He pays attention to detail, is accurate, timely and willing to lend a helping hand. It's a joy to work with him."

Shania Drake is a barista in the food & nutrition department and has been at OGH since 2023.

"Shania consistently goes above and beyond in her role and is an invaluable member of our team. Everyone in the building knows Shania and loves her! Shania takes the time to remember employees' names and regular orders, creating a welcoming and personalized experience for everyone she serves. She is very down to earth and nice as well," read her nomination. "Mostly, it is a one woman show and she runs it with ease and gets the long lines down very quickly. Plus, the quality is great as her drinks are always better than the actual Starbucks in town. She definitely keeps the people in this building going!"

The Star Award is presented monthly to an employee who demonstrates outstanding performance and inspires the same in others. Staff members are nominated for exceptional customer satisfaction, continuous performance improvement, teamwork, communication, ownership/accountability and excellence through co-worker or patient nominations.

The following were also nominated for Star Awards at BRMC: Brian McGee, radiology; Patty Morris, Pavilion; and Nancy Phearsdorf, food & nutrition. OGH nominees were: Krissy Banas, EVS; Sydney Kellogg, RN, third floor; and Amanda Martin, laboratory.

Star award recipients receive a chamber of commerce gift certificate, additional paid time off, a certificate of recognition and the star award parking spot.
