Joint Committee on Climate, Environment and Energy meets for a review of Storm Éowyn and storm preparedness

The Joint Committee on Climate, Environment and Energy will meet tomorrow, Wednesday, 12th November 2025 in a joint Committee meeting with the Joint Committee on Housing, Local Government and Heritage for a review of Storm Éowyn and storm preparedness at 12:30pm in Committee Room 3 of Leinster House.

The meeting will hear from representatives from:
• The Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage
• Local Government Management Agency
• ESB Networks DAC
• An Crompán

Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Naoise Ó Muirí TD said "Our joint meeting tomorrow will allow the Committee the opportunity to review the country's storm preparedness and how we dealt with the recent Storm Éowyn. We saw Met Éireann issue timely warnings during the storm that allowed citizens to prepare for its arrival. We also saw the National Emergency Co-ordination Group work closely with emergency services, local authorities, and other stakeholders to respond to the storm's effects. ESB Networks and Uisce Éireann were able to prepare for potential disruptions, advising citizens to conserve energy and water.
"Storm Éowyn highlighted the importance of adapting to the increasingly frequent extreme weather events we see. Climate change is expected to intensify storms, leading to more frequent and severe weather events. We will look to those attending tomorrow to provide the Committee with an understanding of what is being undertaken to address the issues that emerged during Storm Éowyn and how we are planning and preparing for future storms."
