Honour based abuse could be emotional abuse, physical abuse, family disownment coercive control, threats, forced marriage and other harmful practices, and in some cases even murder.

There may be multiple male and female perpetrators from the immediate family, sometimes the extended family and occasionally the community at large. Mothers, sisters, aunties and even grandmothers have been known to be involved in the conspiring of honour crimes.

Males can also be victims, sometimes because of their involvement in what is deemed to be an inappropriate relationship, if they are gay, or if they are believed to be supporting the victim.

If you are, or worried that you could be, at risk from Honour Based Abuse, support is available from the Doncaster Domestic Abuse Hub.
