Light the Lamp Ceremony is Sept. 8

Topeka, Kan. - The Harmony J. Hines School of Nursing will welcome more than 70 Level 1 nursing students during the traditional "Light the Lamp" ceremony at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, in Washburn Rooms A and B in the Memorial Union, on the Washburn University campus. At the start of each semester, Harmony Hines School of Nursing faculty and staff give new students their first nursing pin.

"A pinning ceremony is a meaningful rite of passage that celebrates a student's journey into nursing and marks their official entry into the healthcare profession," said Dr. Crystal Stevens, dean of the Harmony Hines School of Nursing. "Education is the light of learning and nursing is the light when someone needs help, Light the Lamp symbolizes the first step these students are taking into their nursing profession at Washburn."
