UFCW Statement on Signing of Maryland’s Protection From Predatory Pricing Act

ANNAPOLIS, MD. - Today, the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW), which represents hundreds of thousands of grocery store workers across the country, including Maryland, released a statement in response to Governor Wes Moore signing the Protection From Predatory Pricing Act into law.

UFCW International Vice President Ademola Oyefeso said:

"Governor Moore has rightly elevated the issue of surveillance pricing in grocery stores, but the Protection From Predatory Pricing Act pushed through by state lawmakers fails to sufficiently protect Marylanders. There are too many loopholes for massive retailers to exploit working families as they try to put food on the table.

"The UFCW urges Governor Moore and the legislature to fix this legislation during the next legislative session to truly protect consumers and leave retailers no space to deploy predatory pricing."
